Safety Comes First

In any manufacturing environment, safety must come first. Empowering employees to always begin their work with safety in mind starts with providing the appropriate protective clothing, accessories, and special equipment they need to protect against hazards and injuries on the job. After proper training, protecting your Team from injury, and your company from risk, begins with providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Personal Protective Equipment for Composites Manufacturing

Personal protective equipment helps reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective to reduce these risks to acceptable levels. PPE includes gloves, protective clothing, respirators, hearing protection, eye protection, booth filters, and floor paper. Depending on the type of manufacturing processes being employed, different PPE may be recommended or required by regulation. The Safety Data Sheet accompanying specific composites materials will indicate the recommended PPE for safe handling of that product or chemical.

Safety Solutions Available from Composites One

  • Composites One supplies DuPont™ Tyvek® protective coveralls which are ideal for many composites manufacturing environments. These reliable, lightweight coveralls are affordable while offering protection, durability, and comfort.

Tyvek® 400 garments are composed of flash spun high density polyethylene which creates a unique, nonwoven material available only from DuPont. Tyvek® 400 fabric offers an inherent barrier against particles (down to 1.0 micron in size). Protection is built into the fabric itself; there are no films or laminates to abrade or wear away. The fabric is designed to deliver a consistently better barrier, even after wear and abrasion.

In the Tyvek® 400 series, the TY120 protective coveralls offer a greater range of movement while stretching and bending, provide a more tailored fit, are reinforced in high stress areas, and utilize a longer zipper. The wrists and ankles are open on the TY120 as compared to the TY125S that includes elastic wrists and ankles in addition to all the features of the TY120.

  • Safety eyewear meets 21st century science with the 3M™ SecureFit™ Protective Eyewear 400 Series. These lightweight safety glasses are designed to offer protection and comfort. Clear, polycarbonate lenses absorb 99.9% of UVA & UVB while meeting both the Impact-Rated Protector and Anti-Fog Performance (X) requirements of ANSI Z87.1-2020.

3M™ Scotchgard™ Protector Anti-Fog Coating resists fogging longer than traditional anti-fog coatings and helps provide scratch resistance in tough work environments. A removable foam-lined gasket helps keep debris out of your eyes while providing comfort and cushioning.

This advanced technology safety eyewear by 3M™ self-adjusts to the individual wearer, providing comfort that lasts all day. Additional features of these anti-fog safety glasses include a one-piece nose bridge, padded temple touch points, and soft nose pads.

  • The 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8511 mask is rated N95 by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). In many composites manufacturing processes, wearing a mask is a safety must. The 3M 8511 N95 mask is ideal for working environments where employees need protection from solid particulates and liquid mists in concentrations not exceeding 10X PEL/OEL.

The 3M 8511 features a Cool Flow™ Exhalation Valve, adjustable M-noseclip, braided headbands and a dual point stapled headband attachment.

When your manufacturing environment calls for enhanced respiratory protection beyond a disposable face mask, Composites One has numerous respirator options to meet your needs.

  • The right safety gloves can protect the hands from epoxy resin and other composite materials, as well as enhance performance by ensuring a good grip and better handling of materials and equipment. Composites One supplies latex and nitrile gloves from Liberty Safety, a leader in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) since 1987.

The DURASKIN® 2800W is a 5mil disposable white latex glove. Lightly powdered to quickly and easily put on and take off, these industrial grade latex safety gloves are non-sterile, micro-textured, ambidextrous, and ISO 9001 factory approved. Disposable latex gloves are form-fitting with dexterity and elasticity. Its durable material offers strong barrier protection.

The DURASKIN® F2010WC is a 4mil blue disposable nitrile glove. These safety gloves are powder-free and industrial grade, non-sterile, micro-textured, ambidextrous, and ISO 9001 factory approved. Disposable nitrile gloves are a latex allergy-safe material. It is a perfect choice for protection from a variety of chemicals.

  • 3M™ Disposable Foam Earplugs are made from expandable slow-recovery foam which helps provide a great combination of comfort and hearing protection for users. Once in the ear, foam earplugs expand to conform to the unique shape of each ear canal. The 3M™ E-A-R™ Classic™ Earplug was the industry’s first foam earplug, virtually revolutionizing hearing protection. These popular earplugs meet wearer and environmental needs thanks to their proprietary foams, preferred cylindrical shape and proven in-ear comfort.

The 3M™ E-A-Rsoft™ Yellow Neons™ Earplugs have a smooth texture for in-ear comfort, are made of an advanced foam for all-day wear and are available in two sizes, corded or uncorded. Brightly colored for hearing protection compliance sighting, these earplugs are an excellent choice for any hearing conservation program with a NRR 33 dB rating.
